Colour management recommendation

As per Jeff Cagle’s request, I am reposting this info from my pro blog, where it was posted last week. Please do this; it helps so much.

I was recently using a computer when I noticed that the photos on my blog were looking really disappointing. Washed-out, blah, and lacking the life that I saw when I was editing them in Photoshop. I took a peek on another computer, and saw that they were looking as lovely as they did in my desktop programs. After a little consultation and research, I learned that my preferences in Firefox were not managing colour correctly. Is your browser set up to display the true images? Several of my friends’ weren’t, and after completing a few simple steps, we were relieved and excited to see images on my blog (and across the internet) as they were meant to be viewed.

To ensure your computer is displaying the right colours, just follow these simple instructions. Note that these work only in Firefox, and only in versions 3+. (Sidebar: If you aren’t using Firefox, please download it. It is free and wonderful.)

  • Type “about:config” into the address bar
  • Find “gfx.color_management”
  • Double click until it switches from “false” to “true”
  • Restart Firefox
