Awesome dinner
I purchased some Padron peppers at the Farmer’s Market this weekend. Padron peppers are the ones used in pimientos de padron the delicious tapas dish where one out of every ten peppers are spicy. Since I’d spent $3 on the peppers, I decided to make an entire tapas dinner out of it. What’s listed below is — not surprisingly — way too much food for two. But it was delicious.
Patatas bravas (potatoes in spicy tomato sauce)
Pimientos de padron
Chicken cutlet with lemon garlic aioli
Melon wrapped in prosciutto
Spinach and garbonzo beans with lots of garlic
Fresh bread
YUM! Lots of leftovers. Hopefully they won’t go bad in the fridge.
Or those peppers where one out of every one is spicy if you are unlucky and your name is Olivia.

Absolutley stunning bettle wing necklace for the ultimate statement. Nature at it’s best, these wings (shed) are not dyed or treated making them even more awe inspiring. Wear with muted plain fabrics and let it do the talking.

Another rare downside to being self-employed
When you make something pretty fantastic, there is no one around to get excited about it with you. When you work in an office and make a great marketing piece or figure out some neat way of doing something, you can go see your friend in the office down the hall. “Look at this! Isn’t it neat?!” “Oh yeah! That’s awesome! How did you do that? Did you show that to so and so?”
Instead you just say, “Nice work, self. … …. Guess I should go eat an apple.”

ponder this
the same Republicans who falsely claim healthcare reform will get between a doctor and patient are the ones pushing for anti-abortion laws that mandate what a doctor must say and do. Why is it “not okay” when it financially benefits them and then magically “okay” when it politically benefits them?
the ironies within the party have been confounding in recent years. I feel like republicans are folding in on themselves.

Nice/long how-to post on Jez about negotiating salaries for women (women who don’t when they can or ought to = one of my pet peeves).

Dogs.
My building is full of dogs, largely little lap dogs or chihuahuas, the type that you’d expect to see with a lot of the women that live in the area. Some poor worker was shampooing the carpet today, I imagine due to these guys’ urine, as I frequently find the hallway to be littered with wet spots. This is also the case in the elevator, which is particularly disgusting. I blame this mostly on one particular set of residents — neither of whom seems to have any sort of employment, but who, instead, just listen to music loudly, fight and let their dogs run around without leashes, almost forgetting them on other floors. These sorts of dogs are annoying, but their relative silence and cuteness makes them appealing.
On the other hand, someone seems to have picked up a German Shepherd. WHile pretty, this is NOT an appealing dog for a large urban building. It barks and barks all the time. Loudly. I was walking to the elevator the other day, and its owners pulled him out of the elevator, and he turned to look at me, and once again, loudly and frighteningly barked in this vicious sort of way.
Increasingly, my thoughts on pets are rapidly becoming:
Cats > Small dogs > Big dogs
Interesting, given that probably 3 years ago, my chart would have been completely reversed.
