Little article on doing a holiday dinner party — meal, wine and decor — on the “cheap” ($25 a head). Some good little tips. I am already thinking of what I am going to do—lights, candles, lanterns, cranberries, maybe some moss balls—it is going to be so pretty in here.
I think I’m still in the college phase (as mentioned in the lede). For my birthday party this coming...

Things my dad did ALL week
Repeatedly sang Katy Perry’s “Hot n Cold”
the view of Chicago tonight was the most stunning city view I have ever seen from a plane.
Seriously—-no words.
rambunctious
I just did a casual session with three boys (3, 6, 10). They were very cute, but dear lord, are children exhausting. I have so much respect for parents. How one does it every day for two decades while working full-time is beyond me. I hope I am financially well-off enough in the future that my husband could stay home with the kids.

Thankful
Because everyone is doing it.
I am thankful that I have a family that loves me always. I always feel rather guilty because I think I became too independent too quickly, but they have always been so supportive and loving toward me. Especially when it came time to quit my job, I’m thankful that I had a family that was encouraging in the process, despite some reservations.
I am thankful for...
On the 20/20 special, they’ve showed several super-short clips of the acceptance in Grant Park. Every time they show it, I just beam with smiles and my heart starts to race. I am so glad I went. What a night.
Also, B & M are so ridiculously adorable.
school
I have had a deep desire lately to be back in school. When I graduated undergrad, my loose plan was go get a master’s in something public policy related, most likely related to housing issues. I think I would still like to study something along these lines. I just want to go and learn more, research, engage, write opinions, about things I think are important and interesting. That said, an...

Charlotte is stupid cheap
Gas: $1.85 (I seriously thought the sign was posted incorrectly)
Men’s haircut at upscale salon: $25
Very large plate of enchiladas suizas and rice: $5
Spring rolls at nicer thai place: $2
I love my body.
Maybe it is vain of me to say so, but I almost never hear a woman say that. I think it’s worth articulating if it’s true.
An hour and fifteen minutes to get to the airport = not awesome. This is about the same amount of time it took when I lived 50 miles south of the city.

Kasia hit the big time! If you know the answer to her question please comment so we can have these nice things in our very own apartment! I’m very proud of her and her blossoming internet presence! (We were inspired last night by looking at her 13-year old cousin’s Facebook profile and realizing that a day on his mini-feed is like three months on our own.)
I commented on AT before...
In which everything I make will involve brioche...
I had a two-hour business/pleasure/networking lunch today with my other favourite Chicago photographer, and it was a delight. Turkey sandwiches with cherry jam on toasted brioche, italian sodas, lavender-honey mochas. Delish. Today reminded me of what an extrovert I am in terms of how I’m energized. I left feeling all endorphin-ed up. I need to make a more concerted effort to, you know, see...

I was talking to the Jesses about the two children’s book ideas I had last year. They laughed out loud (in a good way) at both of them and tried to encourage me to write them. Upon further reflection, they are pretty darn cute ideas. Perhaps I will make it a winter project. Of course I have no idea how one actually goes about getting a children’s book published, but it would be good to...
funny thing.
When you are starting a relationship (be it a friendship or romance), long silences are generally a bad sign. However, after a certain period of time, there is no greater sign than when you are able to spend an afternoon sitting together in silence.
Guess who got her filter cups? Guess who is going to turn this joint into a coffee house and get addicted to espresso all over again?
